Aldea Tonantzin, Mexico City

Terms & Conditions

Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") carefully before booking or participating in a temazcal ceremony offered by Aldea Tonantzin ("we," "us," "our," or "the Company").

Last updated: 2 September 2026

By booking a session through our website, in person, or by any other means, and by participating in the ceremony, you ("Participant," "you") confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not book or participate in the ceremony.

1. Booking, Payment, and Cancellation

This is not a conventional tourist activity, but an ancestral ceremony that requires careful preparation, dedicated guides, materials, and logistical arrangements made specifically for each group.

For this reason, we have established the following cancellation policy:

100% RefundWithin 24 Hours of Booking

After making your reservation, you have 24 hours to cancel and receive a 100% refund, provided that your experience is scheduled more than 48 hours from the time of cancellation. This allows you a short period to confirm that your plans are correct while also allowing us sufficient time to prepare for the ceremony.

80% RefundMore Than 48 Hours Before the Experience

If you cancel more than 48 hours before the scheduled start of the experience, but after the initial 24-hour cancellation period, we can offer an 80% refund of the amount received. The remaining 20% covers unavoidable costs associated with international transactions, banking fees, payment platforms, and cryptocurrency-related transaction costs. These costs cannot be recovered once the payment has been processed.

No RefundWithin 48 Hours of the Experience

Once there are 48 hours or less before the scheduled experience, no refunds are available, regardless of the reason for cancellation. By this point, we have already made commitments that cannot be reversed, including:

  • Securing our guides and ceremony team exclusively for your group.
  • Purchasing and preparing the materials needed for the ceremony.
  • Organizing transportation and other logistical arrangements.
  • Covering non-refundable payment and platform transaction fees.
  • Preparing the space and ceremony specifically for the confirmed number of participants.

Because these preparations begin in advance and involve commitments to our team and community, we are unable to recover these costs when a guest cancels within 48 hours. No exceptions can be made for illness, flight delays or cancellations, changes in travel plans, personal circumstances, or other unforeseen situations.

No Rescheduling

We do not offer rescheduling. Once a reservation has been confirmed, the date and time are considered final. If you are unable to attend for any reason, the cancellation policy above will apply.

Changes, Modifications & Arrangements

If you contact any member of our team and request, discuss, or agree to a change of date, rescheduling, modification, or any alternative arrangement, and a member of our team agrees to it, this will be considered a voluntary modification of your original reservation.

By agreeing to any change or rescheduling arrangement, you automatically waive your right to any refund under the original cancellation policy.

Once a new date or alternative arrangement has been agreed upon, the new reservation becomes final and non-refundable. Any subsequent cancellation, or request for a refund will not be eligible for a refund, regardless of how much notice is provided. This applies even if the original reservation would otherwise have qualified for a refund under our standard cancellation policy.

By requesting, accepting, or agreeing to any change or rescheduling arrangement with any member of the Aldea Tonantzin team, the guest acknowledges and accepts these conditions. This policy allows our small team to make arrangements with certainty and ensures that the same conditions and standards are applied fairly to all guests.

Health & Preparation Guidelines

For the safety and well-being of everyone participating, we ask that you arrive in an appropriate physical and mental condition for the ceremony.

We do not accept participants who have consumed excessive amounts of alcohol or recreational drugs the day before or immediately prior to the ceremony, as this may create health risks and affect the experience for the rest of the group.

We also reserve the right to deny participation to anyone showing symptoms of a potentially contagious illness, as protecting the health of our guests, guides, and team is a priority. Denial of participation for these reasons does not create an entitlement to a refund.

A Note About Our Policy

We understand that plans can change and that unexpected situations may arise. At the same time, we are a small collective dedicated to preserving and sharing an ancestral tradition with respect and responsibility.

When you reserve this experience, our team begins preparing not only for your arrival, but for the ceremony itself. Your reservation therefore represents a commitment on both sides. We appreciate your understanding and respect for the time, people, resources, and ancestral tradition involved in creating this experience.

Thank you for honoring our work and for trusting us to share this ceremony with you. — Aldea Tonantzin Team

2. Description of the Ceremony

A temazcal is a traditional pre-Hispanic sweat lodge ceremony conducted in an enclosed, dome-shaped structure heated by volcanic stones. The ceremony typically involves:

  • High heat and humidity: Generated by water poured over heated volcanic stones (steam).
  • Darkness or low light: Enclosed atmosphere for some or all of the ceremony.
  • Confined space: Shared sacred environment with other participants.
  • Physical and emotional intensity: Including sweating, altered breathing, deep introspection, and at times feelings of discomfort, disorientation, or uneasiness.
  • Ritual elements: Such as chanting, drumming, prayer, copal smoke, and herbal steam, led by a facilitator ("temazcalero/a").

The ceremony is offered as a traditional wellness and cultural experience. It is not a medical treatment, and no medical, psychological, or therapeutic outcome is guaranteed.

3. Health Requirements and Contraindications

Participation in a temazcal places real physical demands on the body. You must be in good general health to participate. By booking, you confirm that you do not have any condition listed below, or that you have consulted a physician and received clearance to participate.

You should NOT participate if you:

  • Are pregnant or believe you may be pregnant.
  • Have any cardiovascular condition (heart disease, arrhythmia, high or low blood pressure).
  • Have a respiratory condition (COPD, or similar) that may be aggravated by heat, steam, or smoke.
  • Have epilepsy or a seizure disorder.
  • Suffer from claustrophobia, panic disorder, or severe anxiety that could be triggered by heat, darkness, or confined spaces.
  • Have diabetes that is not well-controlled.
  • Have kidney disease or any condition affecting fluid or electrolyte balance.
  • Have had recent surgery, or an open wound, infection, or fever.
  • Have a heat-sensitive skin condition.
  • Are under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.
  • Are taking medication that affects blood pressure, heart rate, blood clotting, or the body's ability to regulate temperature — unless cleared by a physician.
  • Are a young child, elderly, or otherwise medically frail, without prior medical clearance.

When in doubt, consult your physician before booking. Aldea Tonantzin is not a medical provider and cannot assess your individual fitness to participate — this responsibility rests with you and, where appropriate, your doctor.

You agree to disclose any relevant health condition to our staff before the ceremony begins. We reserve the right to deny or interrupt participation, before or during the ceremony, if a facilitator has reasonable concern for a participant's safety or wellbeing.

4. Assumption of Risk

You acknowledge that participating in a temazcal ceremony involves inherent risks, which may include but are not limited to:

  • Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, or dehydration.
  • Dizziness, fainting, or nausea.
  • Burns from steam, hot stones, or contact with heated surfaces.
  • Aggravation of pre-existing medical conditions.
  • Panic, claustrophobia, or emotional distress arising from the heat, darkness, or enclosed setting.
  • Allergic or respiratory reactions to smoke, copal, or herbs used in the ceremony.
  • Disorientation due to darkness and low visibility.
  • Minor injury from movement in a dark, confined space (e.g., bumps, trips).

You voluntarily and knowingly assume all such risks. You understand that these risks cannot be entirely eliminated regardless of the care taken by Aldea Tonantzin and its facilitators.

5. Your Right to Stop or Exit at Any Time

You may leave the temazcal or ask to stop the ceremony at any point, for any reason, without needing to justify your decision.

Facilitators will explain the exit procedure before the ceremony begins. Please communicate any discomfort to the facilitator as early as possible.

6. Participant Responsibilities

By participating, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate health information before the ceremony.
  • Hydrate adequately before, during, and after the session.
  • Follow the facilitator's instructions at all times.
  • Refrain from alcohol or recreational drug use before and during the ceremony.
  • Remove jewelry, contact lenses, or other items that could pose a risk under heat.
  • Treat the ceremony, facilitators, and fellow participants with respect, in recognition of the cultural and spiritual significance of this tradition.
  • Immediately notify the facilitator of any pain, discomfort, or distress.

7. Right to Refuse or Remove a Participant

Aldea Tonantzin and its facilitators reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to:

  • Refuse entry to any person who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or who does not meet the health requirements above.
  • Remove any participant from the ceremony whose behavior endangers themselves or others, or who fails to comply with facilitator instructions.

8. Minors

Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and require prior written consent.

Aldea Tonantzin reserves the right to restrict or deny participation of young children or minors, given the physical intensity of the ceremony.

9. Alcohol and Drug Policy

Participants may not attend the ceremony under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs.

Aldea Tonantzin reserves the right to deny entry without refund if this policy is not respected.

10. Liability Waiver and Release

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, by participating in the ceremony you release Aldea Tonantzin, its owners, employees, facilitators, and representatives from liability for any injury, illness, loss, or damage arising from your participation, except where such injury, illness, loss, or damage results from gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of Aldea Tonantzin or its representatives.

11. No Medical Advice

Nothing in these Terms, on our website, or communicated by our staff or facilitators constitutes medical advice. Any wellness, spiritual, or health-related claims about the temazcal ceremony are traditional and cultural in nature and are not a substitute for professional medical care.

Always consult a qualified physician regarding any health concerns.

12. Photography and Media

Photographs or videos may be taken during your visit for promotional purposes. Please let our staff know before the ceremony if you do not wish to be photographed or featured in any promotional material.

13. Privacy

Any personal or health information you share with us for the purpose of assessing your fitness to participate will be used solely for that purpose and handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Mexican data protection law.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Mexico and the applicable consumer protection regulations of Mexico City. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your participation in the ceremony will be subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts of Mexico City, without prejudice to any rights you may have before the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO).

15. Changes to These Terms

Aldea Tonantzin may update these Terms from time to time. The version published on our website at the time of your booking will govern that booking.
