Your Journey Begins
Before You Enter

Our Ceremony

You are entering a traditional Zapoteca Temazcal. This is not a performance or a “sugar-coated” version of the ceremony, its an authentic ceremony so we invite you to experience it with respect and openness. Before entering, your guide will share the history and meaning of the Temazcal in Mexico, explain how to enter and what to expect, and offer guidance for your safety and participation. Throughout the ceremony, everything will be translated into English so you can understand what is happening and fully immerse yourself in the experience. Our intention is to honor the roots of the ceremony while helping you enter it with clarity, understanding, and trust.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Temazcal woman
01What is a Temazcal?+

A temazcal is a traditional Mesoamerican steam bath and ceremonial practice. The word comes from the Nahuatl temāzcalli, meaning “house of heat.”Traditionally, the experience takes place inside a small, enclosed structure where heated volcanic stones are brought inside and water infused with medicinal herbs is poured over them, creating steam and heat.More than a steam bath, a temazcal can be a space for rest, reflection, connection with nature, and community. The experience is traditionally guided through songs, prayers, breath, heat, and moments of silence.Every temazcal is different depending on the tradition, the guide, and the intention of the ceremony. For many people, it is an opportunity to slow down, disconnect from everyday life, and reconnect with themselves.

02What should I expect during a session?+

You can expect to spend time inside a warm, dark, enclosed space while the heat and steam gradually build. The ceremony may include traditional songs, instrument , prayers, silence, and moments of reflection. The experience is intentionally hot, so you can expect high temperatures, while the space itself is small, enclosed, and dark. These elements are an important part of the Temazcal, creating an environment that helps you disconnect from the outside world and turn your attention inward—to a part of yourself that can often be forgotten in everyday life.Your guide will explain what to expect before the ceremony begins and will be there to guide and support you throughout the experience.

03How long does a Temazcal ceremony last?+

It can last anywhere from 50 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the group and the energy of each participant. Every ceremony is unique and unfolds in its own way, so there is no exact duration we can predict in advance. We invite you to let go of the clock and allow the experience to unfold naturally.

04How high is the heat inside the Temazcal general health and who shouldn’t go into a Temazcal?+

Because a Temazcal involves intense heat and humidity, it may not be appropriate for everyone. If you are pregnant, have a heart or respiratory condition, have issues with blood pressure, are taking medication that affects your ability to regulate heat, or have any other medical condition that could be affected by intense heat, consult your doctor before participating. If you are unsure whether a Temazcal is appropriate for you, please speak with your healthcare provider before booking.

05Is the Temazcal going to heal me?+

Historically, the Temazcal has been used as a traditional practice to support overall physical and emotional well-being. The combination of heat, steam, herbs, movement, and the ceremonial experience can create a powerful sense of relaxation and renewal. The heat may help relax muscles and temporarily ease aches and tension, while the steam and aromatic herbs can create a soothing experience for the respiratory system. The bodys natural response to heat can also bring about a sense of relaxation and well-being afterward. However, these experiences are different for everyone, and we do not promise specific health benefits or outcomes.A Temazcal can be a powerful experience for reflection, release, connection, and personal transformation, but it is not a cure and it will not replace medical treatment. Think of it as a complementary experience that can support your overall well-being, rather than something that will heal a specific condition. If you have a medical condition or are currently receiving treatment, please continue following your healthcare professionals recommendations and do not replace or stop any treatment because of a Temazcal. If you are unsure whether the heat and intensity of the experience are appropriate for you, consult your healthcare provider before participating.

06What happens if i can not handle the heat? can i step outside?+

Everyone responds differently to heat, and the Temazcal is designed to be an experience that gently challenges your usual limits. Sometimes, when your mind says “it is too hot, too humid, or too uncomfortable,” staying present and moving through that discomfort can lead to a powerful sense of accomplishment and personal breakthrough. At the same time, there is an important difference between your mind wanting to leave and your body telling you that something is not right. We encourage you to listen to your body. If you feel dizzy, unwell, faint, or simply know that you need to step out, let your guide know. They will open the door and help you leave safely. You can always leave the Temazcal if you need to. However, because this is a community experience, we ask everyone to respect the process of the other participants inside. For this reason, if you choose to step outside, you may not be able to re-enter immediately. The guide may open the door once or twice during the ceremony, or in some ceremonies, the door may remain closed for the entire experience. If the door is not opened again, you will need to remain outside until the ceremony is complete. This is not meant to prevent you from listening to your body—your well-being always comes first. It simply allows us to maintain the integrity of the ceremony and respect everyone is experience inside. If you feel ready to challenge yourself, we will support you through it. And if your body tells you that it is time to step out, we will support that too.

07What if I suffer from claustrophobia? ¿Can I participate in a Temazcal?+

Yes, a Temazcal is a small, enclosed space, and during the ceremony we close the entrance. Darkness is an important part of the experience—it is often described as the fifth element of the Temazcal. We like to say that “seeds grow in the darkness.” Just as a seed opens and begins to grow beneath the earth, darkness can create a space where we turn inward, let go of distractions, and connect with parts of ourselves that are harder to access in the outside world. If you experience claustrophobia, we encourage you to consider whether you feel ready to explore this experience. We have welcomed many people who were initially nervous about the enclosed space and were surprised by their ability to move through it. For some, completing the ceremony becomes a powerful experience of trust, courage, and stretching beyond their usual limits. That said, you know yourself best. We will do everything we can to support you through the experience, and you are always encouraged to communicate with your guide if you are struggling. At the same time, a Temazcal is a community experience. We hold space for the entire group, so we cannot adapt the entire ceremony around one participant. If you choose to join us, we ask that you come with an understanding of what the experience involves and a willingness to meet it as it is.If you are ready to try, we will be there to hold your hand, support you, and walk you through it. But the choice to stay, step outside, or continue is always yours.

08Are there any psichodelics in the ceremony?+

No. There are no psychedelics involved in our Temazcal ceremony. Before entering the Temazcal, we share cacao as part of the experience, and afterward we enjoy a warm herbal tea. Neither contains psychedelic substances.

09Why does the experience take around 5 hours?+

Our Temazcal experience is approximately 5 hours from pickup to drop-off in Condesa, which is our only meeting point. Sometimes the experience is a little shorter, but we recommend setting aside the full 5 hours so you can enjoy the journey without feeling rushed. The Temazcal site is within Mexico City, but as anyone who lives in CDMX knows, you never know what traffic will look like! We allow approximately 30–50 minutes each way for transportation, depending on traffic.Once we arrive, we will show you around the community space where our Temazcal takes place. You will have time to use the restroom, change into the clothes you will wear inside the Temazcal, and safely leave your belongings in our changing area. Before the ceremony, we will take a walk through our medicinal garden. Your guide will then introduce you to the Temazcal, explain its significance, and tell you what to expect before entering the womb. The ceremony itself usually lasts between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the group and how the experience unfolds. Every ceremony is different. After the ceremony, we will have time to cool down with a cold shower and relax in the garden before heading back to Condesa. We generally arrive back before the estimated 5-hour mark, but we recommend planning for the full time, especially because traffic in Mexico City can be unpredictable , so we allow approximately 30–50 minutes for the journey each way. Once we arrive, we’ll show you around our community space, where the Temazcal is located, and introduce you to some of our neighboring projects and the surrounding area. You’ll then have time to use the restroom and change into the clothing you’ll wear inside the Temazcal. We have a comfortable changing room where you can safely leave your belongings while you are inside. Before the ceremony, we’ll take a walk through our medicinal garden, giving you a moment to connect with the space before entering the Temazcal. Your guide will then introduce you to the ritual and significance of the Temazcal, explain what to expect, and answer any questions before we enter the sweat lodge. The ceremony inside the Temazcal usually lasts between one and two hours, depending on the dynamics and energy of the group. Every ceremony unfolds differently. Our guides are attentive and flexible, and you can always let your guide know if you need to step outside. After the ceremony, we’ll take a refreshing cold shower and then have some time to relax and recover in the garden. Once everyone is ready, we’ll change back into our dry clothes and head back together to our meeting point in La Condesa.

010what should i wear?+

You can wear whatever makes you feel comfortable! Just keep in mind that the clothes you wear inside the Temazcal will get wet from the steam and heat. We recommend wearing a swimsuit, shorts and a top, or a tank top—anything lightweight and comfortable that you do not mind getting wet. After the Temazcal, we take a quick cold rinse, so you will be completely wet afterward. Please bring a towel to dry yourself and a change of dry clothes to wear after the experience.

011Is transportation included? +

Transportation to our meeting point is not included. You’ll simply need to make your way to our designated meeting point in La Condesa, a convenient and easy-to-reach area of Mexico City. From there, we’ll travel together as a group to the Temazcal and return together to the same meeting point afterward. 📍 Meeting point: Starbucks Alfonso Reyes 218 Col. Condesa, Mexico City https://share.google/kphB7tQpAohsK2ZJV Arriving on time Because this is a group experience, arriving on time helps us create a smooth and peaceful beginning for everyone.Your booking time is your exact meeting time, and we can wait a maximum of 5 minutes after that.We kindly ask you to arrive 10–20 minutes before the scheduled meeting time in case you need to take care of any personal needs before we depart. Once the group is ready, we will leave on time and will not be able to wait for anyone who has not arrived. This helps us respect everyone time and keep the experience running smoothly. There are several convenient options around our meeting point if you arrive early: you can use the restrooms at Starbucks, grab a coffee at Café Bruna, or stop by the nearby OXXO for any last-minute snacks or essentials. This is especially important because of Mexico City traffic. Even a 5-minute delay can have a much bigger impact on the ceremony schedule. It can mean keeping the fire burning longer than intended or delaying other ceremonies that are scheduled afterward. Please plan accordingly and arrive early if you need to take care of any personal errands. We will always do our best to respect everyone time and keep the experience flowing smoothly for the whole group.

012Can I meet you directly at the Temazcal?+

Yes. If you’ve joined us before and are already familiar with the location of our ceremonial space, you may choose to meet us there directly. Please let us know in advance if you’d like to do this. If you choose to arrive on your own, please make sure you know the route and allow plenty of time for traffic. Our guides will be traveling with and caring for the rest of the group, so they will not be able to provide directions or stay on the phone guiding you while driving. Please keep in mind that, although the Temazcal is within Mexico City, getting there can be a little challenging. The journey from La Condesa usually takes around 30–50 minutes, depending on traffic, and the location can be difficult to find—even for Uber drivers. If you arrive directly and are late, we’ll need to continue with the ceremony without waiting, as we want to honor the time, presence, and process of everyone who arrived as scheduled.

013Pick-up & Drop-off+

For logistical reasons and to make the journey as smooth and safe as possible for everyone, we offer transportation only between our designated meeting point in La Condesa and the Temazcal. We’re unable to accommodate alternative pick-up or drop-off locations, so please plan your transportation to and from our meeting point accordingly. Thank you for helping us keep the experience smooth, punctual, and respectful for everyone. We truly appreciate your presence and your support in creating a beautiful experience for the whole group.

014GRATUITY & TIPS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED +

Tipping is not expected or required in Mexico. However, if you feel moved to leave a gratuity after your experience, it is a meaningful way to support the entire team behind the ceremony, and it will be received with sincere gratitude. If you would like to leave a tip, we kindly ask that you give it directly to your host—the person who picks you up and brings you back to the meeting point. From there, the gratuity will be distributed fairly among the members of our team who helped make the experience possible. No member of our team should ever ask or pressure you for a tip. If anyone does, please let us know.If you prefer to leave a gratuity digitally, simply let your host know at the end of the experience, and they will be happy to help you with the available digital payment options.
